Mónica R. Alonzo was the first Hispanic woman elected to represent District 6 on the Dallas City Council since her initial victory in 2011. After winning the 2013 re-election, Ms. Alonzo was unanimously elected by her council colleagues to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Dallas. Following her re-election to a third term in 2015, Ms. Alonzo was unanimously elected as Mayor Pro Tem.
Since May 2011, the former Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Alonzo continued to serve as a business and community leader and is known and respected for her tenacity, tireless effort and passion for senior citizens, youth and America’s Veterans. Big things happen here in this great city of Dallas!
As an elected public servant, Ms. Alonzo brought her ability to get things done to the Council seat and she continues her advocacy on behalf of District 6 and all Dallas residents even this past term while not in Office.
The Honorable Monica R. Alonzo understands and respects the diversity of our neighborhoods and communities in Dallas, especially those in District 6. Her home district has 85,000 residents and spans over 42 square miles; from Keeneland and the Arcadia Park neighborhood to Northwest Dallas communities including the Cypress Waters development.
In her three terms in office, the Honorable Monica Alonzo achieved solid accomplishments to improve the quality of life for District 6, City of Dallas residents, and business owners. Her focus has always been to improve SAFETY and SECURITY, INFRASTRUCTURE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT and to practice OPEN COMMUNICATION.
The last two years without her in the Council Horseshoe definitely demonstrates how not having her there can impact District 6 and the City of Dallas. The lack of presence has been felt by the constituents, which is why she has decided to run for Council once more. Her support base has continued to widen, spanning four voting generations; because her platform speaks to young and old alike.
The improvements you see now in infrastructure are a residual of her time in office. The Honorable Monica Alonzo supported the 2012 Bond program and successfully allocated 15% of those funds ($97M) to District 6. She looks forward to continuing her work and see her vision through; improving quality of life for her constituents and the citizens of Dallas long term.
